How much cheaper than Steam, really
Steam has the lowest price for EU buyers on 544 of the 7876 games where we see a Steam price at all. On the other 7332, the cheapest offer is a median 70.9% below it — and a quarter of them are more than 87.3% below.
How far below Steam
Each game counted once: the cheapest current offer for an EU buyer against the Steam price on the same day, standard edition, both in euro.
| Cheaper than Steam by | Games | Share |
|---|---|---|
| 0–10% | 496 | 6.8% |
| 10–20% | 369 | 5.0% |
| 20–30% | 479 | 6.5% |
| 30–40% | 413 | 5.6% |
| 40–50% | 491 | 6.7% |
| 50–60% | 615 | 8.4% |
| 60–70% | 722 | 9.8% |
| 70–80% | 967 | 13.2% |
| 80–90% | 1289 | 17.6% |
| 90–100% | 1491 | 20.3% |
What the spread means
The distribution leans deep: 69.3% of these games are more than half off the Steam price, and the largest single group is 90–100%, with 1491 games in it. That shape reads like two different markets rather than one — our reading of it, not a measurement. Small gaps look like ordinary retail competition — an authorised reseller shaving a few euro off a current title. Deep gaps are mostly older games whose Steam price never moved while key shops kept selling down: a game at 90% below Steam is usually not a sale, it is a price nobody updated.
Which is why the median is the honest number here and an average would not be: a tail of eight-year-old titles near −95% drags any average somewhere useless.

Method
- 7876 games where a current Steam price exists for an EU buyer;
- gap = 1 − (cheapest offer ÷ Steam price), measured on the same day;
- quartiles rather than an average: 41.3% at the first quarter, 70.9% median, 87.3% at the third;
- games where Steam itself is cheapest are excluded from the distribution and counted separately.
